We are backpacking along the north side of Savage Gulf this weekend. If
you have an AllTrails account, you can see the *route *here:

I've also attached the gpx file for our route. There's also a simple

*Route Plan*
Camp Friday night at Stone Door trail head.
Depart on trail by 9am. Hike down along the water on Saturday (Big Creek
Gulf Trail)
Length of Saturday hike 4.6 miles with 1004 ft elevation gain. We may
visit Ranger Falls, which adds 0.8 mi (0.4 out and 0.4 back).
Camp at Alum Gap Saturday night.
Return to Stone Door trail head on one of the upper trails Sunday. (Laurel
Tr)
Length of Sunday hike 2.8 miles with 121 ft elevation gain.

Scouts, please review a *packing list *and don't overpack.
Things to pack in your backpack
- scout essentials (lamp/flashlight, sun protection, fire, snacks, small
first-aid kit, etc)
- minimal extra clothing (extra socks, something dry to sleep in, light
jacket or blanket for the evening)
- sleeping gear (warm weather sleeping bag and ground pad)
- shelter (tent and stakes or hammock and straps/rope)
- Food, eating utensils, plate or bowl if needed (+hand sanitizer)
- at least 2 water bottles (40-50 oz of water capacity). You will need a
second container
- deodorant and other required toiletries
- toilet paper / bathroom kit
- extra ziploc bags to pack trash out

Wear non-cotton clothes if you have them. Moisture wicking is preferred.
It is recommended that you care no more than 25%-30% of your body weight.
Less weight is better.

*Shared Items:*
Here's a selection of items that may be shared. If you have them and would
like to share them with other scouts, feel free to bring them. If you
don't have them or need a lighter pack, we will have those to share:
- stove / jetboil
- water filter
- If you have a larger tent, that can be shared

*Requirements*
Review rank requirements before you leave. You can get camping and hiking
requirements signed off. Review the navigation and nature requirements.
Cooking merit badge - requirement 6 - Cook meals and share. If you plan to
do this, let others know you will be feeding them. If you are being fed,
make sure you leave room in your pack to help carry the shared food.
Camping merit badge - requirement 9 b 1 - hike with 1000 ft elevation gain,
2 - Backpack at least 4 miles.
This is just a start. If you have some other requirements you will be
working on, let someone know.

*Travel* (same info as Monday's email)
Meet at the scout shed: 5:30pm. Eat before or bring dinner. We will
depart quickly since all gear will go in vehicles. We will not bring the
trailer.
We expect to return to Asbury close to 12pm. We may arrive earlier if our
return hike goes quickly.
