Camp Sequoyah Summer Camp
This month, our troop will be attending Camp Sequoyah’s annual summer camp. Scouts will learn a variety of knowledge and skills there, as well as being put to the test with the many physical activities. Camp Sequoyah offers a range of classes for your Scout to take, from Cooking to Swimming, from First Aid to Entrepreneurship, and even Shotgun/Rifle Shooting to Citizenship in the World. Whatever your Scout wants to learn is all there, ready to be applied in the future world.
Highlights – Things to Look Forward to
- Classes – Each Scout will be given time to select the classes they are interested in taking months in advance. Four classes can be taken, each one equally spread throughout the days, and the options are many and engaging. You can find the list of classes here.
- Dining Hall – Of course, the main concern of every Scout is: “Is the food there good?” To answer that, yes, it’s good enough to keep you staying. To start the day, cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit are offered. Lunch and dinner bring a different meal every day, whether it’s pasta and sandwiches for lunch or lasagna and dessert for dinner. The drinks will alternate as well, offering lemonade, orange juice, and water.
- Trading Post – The Trading Post is a favorite among the many Scouts that attend Camp Sequoyah. Whatever they need can be found there, from snacks ranging from chips to ice cream to personal items and essentials such as Vaseline and solar-powered fans. There’s even a slushy machine offering 3 refreshing flavors for when Scouts have taken enough of the Sun’s beating.
- Swimming Lake – If you don’t have a sweet tooth for slushy and ice cream and want another way to cool down, there’s no better option than heading down to the lake. Scouts must have taken and passed the BSA swim test and have a buddy with them to participate in activities such as swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and diving. If Scouts haven’t taken the test or are Non-Swimmers, don’t worry, there’s also a water slide, another thrilling activity that doesn’t require any swimming but does require patience (the lines are pretty long).

- Mud Run – After the first day of classes, Scouts are allowed to participate in a grueling and gritty obstacle course while knee-deep in mud. What starts as a small group of ‘Mud Runners’ recruiting Scouts to join them transforms into a parade of lively Scouts chanting “Mud! Mud! Mud!” as they march and are led towards the obstacle course. When the countdown begins, you’d better hold on to your shoes, as mud will be spilled (and your shoes may get lost in the mud). Consider bringing old clothes and shoes you wouldn’t mind losing/getting dirty if you want to partake in the Mud Run.
