Troop,     Unfortunately we have to reschedule this weekend’s trip to the first weekend of June in 2 weeks. Several issues beyond anyone’s control have affected adult availability. I will create a new sign up sheet and send it early next week.
Mr Cybuck will attempt to organize a day hike and campfire at his house tomorrow though, so look for email and sign up info from him soon.

RE: 2022 Sipsey campout signup
The following Scouts and adults have signed up for this weekend’s trip. If you plan to attend but have not responded yet, please do so soon so we can finalize seating etc. Would be nice to get another Star/Life/Eagle Scout on the trip to deepen our experience level.

We will leave the Scout shed at Asbury no later than 5:30, drive to Moulton, and then head south into the Bankhead Forest on AL SR 33 to Cranal Rd and then to the parking area ~0.5 mile east of the Braziel Canyon area at the north end of the Borden Trail (see attached picture and map) and the south end of the Braziel Creek Trail (this canyon appears on Google maps). We will set up camp in the canyon area Friday evening and then hike the Borden Trail south to its end and then back to our start point (about 5-6 miles) Saturday. To comply with Bankhead Forest rules limiting group sizes on the trail to 10, we’ll likely split the hike into two groups. We will set up camp in the same area on Saturday night and return to the Scout shed Sunday morning about 10 AM.

Reminder – If you haven’t completed the health forms A and B (attached) in the last year, please fill it out and have it when you arrive Friday night.

We will return to the Sipsey Trail area of the Bankhead Forest on May 20-22 2022 for camping and backpacking. Please use the link above to let us know if you’ll be attending or not. This is one of the best trips we take throughout the year, so don’t miss out!

This trip’s events will be like last year’s. We will leave the Scout shed at 5:30 on the 20th, set up camp that night, wake up, eat, break camp, and head out on the trail for between 6-8 miles of backpacking. Afterwards, we will either return to the original camp site or set up a new one (planning still underway) Saturday night. On Sunday we will wake up, eat, break camp, and either hike a short distance back to the cars or load the cars (depending on where camp was set up), and return to the Scout shed around 10:00 AM.

This trip will provide many opportunities to complete merit badge and rank advancement requirements, so plan ahead and make wise use of the time and resources. Although we will work as a team to take care of each other, the intent is for each of you to be self sufficient by packing/carrying your own equipment (to include tent or hammock, food, and water) and by preparing your own meals. This is also a great opportunity for older Scouts to help newer Scouts improve their basic skills.

Please submit completed BSA Health Forms A and B (attached here) before leaving on the 20th.
