[Troop351] Philmont by Horseback in 2024

I just checked on our Philmont reservation for the summer of 2024 and we've been moved up to position 2 on the wait list for two of our dates. Things are looking very good for us being able to actually get a slot. Over the next 15 months, it's highly likely that at least two or three troops ahead of us will choose a different date or cancel their reservation. If you have an interest in touring the mountains of New Mexico by horseback for 8 days and 8 nights, please let me know. Here's more information:

Philmont released the results of the lottery for 2024 treks. As usual, cavalcade (horseback) treks went quickly and we are not guaranteed a slot, but we're #5 on the waiting list for our first pick. There was another trek that had a shorter wait, so I traded out one of our treks where we were #10 for one where we would be #4.

The wait list position for those dates is dynamic: we are #35 out of 92 troops on the waitlist. The 34 troops ahead of us get to choose their trek before we do. A lot will drop out if they can't get the exact date they want, so having some flexibility in our preferred dates will give us a better chance. As we get closer to 2024, things will shuffle around and something might open up OR, we might find a troop who was awarded a trek that has enough open slots for our scouts.

The maximum weight for participants on a horseback trek is 200lbs. A scout must be 14 years old when the trek begins, or have completed the 8th grade and be at least 13 years old.

We are allowed to request 5 dates for our Philmont trek in 2024. To increase our chances of being awarded a cavalcade trek (a trek exclusively on horseback), I selected the first 5 cavalcade dates:
